As a child my husband Nino, grew up with a small terrier
mixed breed named "Jack". Nino would tell me many fond stories of Jack and their
adventures. I grew up with several breeds, mostly herding. I spent a great deal of time on
a farm in Oklahoma during my childhood. On the farm we had Border Collies. We also had a
Shetland Sheepdog also known as a Sheltie named "Frisbee". I used to think they
were called miniature collies. I suppose you can gather we had endless days playing
toss with a Frisbee. Later we added a Blue Tick Coonhound to the crowd. This was not an
intelligent animal. I can remember "Blue" walking directly into a fence that had
a piece of wire sticking out. It plunged directly into his eye. He recovered with sight in
one eye. My brother came home one day with a puppy. He was solid black, and we decided to
call him "Inkie". He looked like a mix of Labrador Retriever and
Weimaraner. He also had what would be the "WORST" behavioral traits of both
breeds. My parents quickly decided we would not be keeping him. Generously, my Uncle
Joe took him. We were able to visit him every day. I'm sure my Uncle Joe was happy to have
us run down some of Inkie's energy. This dog was absolutely insane! I remember heading
home after a play session with Inkie. I turned around and saw him looking out the second
story window. The next thing I know, the dog jumped out the window. Fortunately, he only
broke a leg.
When my husband and I decided we wanted a dog of our very own, we wanted
to go about getting a dog the "right" way. We researched every breed we had
possible interest in. We talked to many breeders. Our final decision was a Weimaraner.
Although we did hear many horror stories about the breed. We took the plunge anyway, and
have been in love with the breed ever since.
We began our involvement in purebred dogs in 1995 purchasing our first
weimaraner "Ziggy" Ch. Pennywood's Ziggy Stardust,
CGC with the help of Ellen Grevatt. We began showing in American Kennel Club
conformation as owner handlers. "Ziggy" finished his AKC Championship easily and
became a Top Ten Weimaraner two years running 98' & 99'. We had lots of fun with him
winning multiple specialty shows, group wins, as well as a veteran Best in Show. Although
"Ziggy" passed on, he will always be in our hearts. Our love for weimaraners had
grown. We decided to begin a breeding program. Once again we turned to our friend and
mentor Ellen Grevatt "Greywind", to help us find a foundation bitch on order to
start a line. She pointed us in the direction of Norman LeBoeuf "Norman's" a
long time breeder, who had one puppy bitch in the litter of four.
This litter was from frozen semen out of Ellen's stud dog BIS Am/BDA & Nat Ch
Greywinds Jack Frost, CD, SD, V, BROM, HOF who had passed ten years prior to our
involvement in dogs. With her encouragement, Norman agreed to let us purchase
"Brie" Ch Norman'n'Greywind's Bonnie Brae, BROM.
After finishing her Championship, "Brie" went on to produce a Futurity winner,
an International Champion, as well as five Champions, & Top Ten Ranking bitch.
This was the beginning of our line. The "Stardust Weimaraners", name comes in
loving memory of our first weimaraner, Ziggy Stardust.
When we decided to keep "Sunny" Ch
Stardust Shine A Light On Me, we showed her selectively. She was ranked as a top
weimaraner when we decided to breed her. Sunny produced two exceptional litters. We
decided to keep a bitch from each litter, in order to continue the "Stardust"
line. The first litter produced BISS Ch Stardust's Moonlight
Magic, a multiple group winner, multiple specialty show winner. The second litter
produced Ch Stardust's Wild Thing, the Weimaraner Club
of America 2008 National Specialty Winners Bitch/ Best of Winners. We are very proud of
Sunny, and her offspring's accomplishments.
Our breeding program consists of one or two litters a year. We believe
we do not have to produce quantity, to have quality. We hope you enjoyed the story of our
beginning, and hope to add lots more in years to come. |
